Frequently asked questions

What are our signs made of?

High Density Urethane (HDU).  This substrate has been developed to eliminate the negative aspects of exterior wood signage (warping, cracking, delaminating, checkink etc.) We have done dimensional signs for 35 years and hav experienced these drawbacks which is why HDU is used. Folks invest in quality signage- it should remain that way.

What do our prices include?

Panel preparation, generation and application of sandblast stencil, sandblasting, finish cutting and sanding, priming and painting, carving, finishing and application of graphic (if necessary), wrapping, boxing, and shipping of finished sign.

How long for delivery?

This depends on where the sign is heading. Smaller signs ship Fed Ex- larger ones with a freight carrier. We usually can  provide this information as well as approximate shipping costs based on size, weight, and destination.

How do I mount my sign?

For insurance and potential damage reasons, we do the signage, not hardware.  Mounting techniques can very from signs using eyebolts for hanging (for which we can drill the holes) to posts, or wall mounts.  We can share more information on those specifics on request.

Do you get involved with larger signs?

We do, everything begins with client input followed by a free line layout which focuses on shape, size, etc.

What about signs damaged in shipping?

We have been involved in packing/shipping over 500 signs with little or no mishaps or incidents.  We believe this is a testament to our "over the top" packing techniques.  Like others, we have witnessed videos

Weathertop Woodcraft:

"Thank you for the fine work done on or subdivision sign in Lemont. We have already received many compliments from the homeowners and I do not even have the area landscaped. The workmanship, service and quality are all present in the signs and also in your company."

Timberlake Civic Association

Dear Weathertop Woodcraft:

"On behalf of Timberlake Civic Association, I would like to thank you for the creation and installation of our new Timberlake entrance signs. I have received many compliments on our new addition. The general consensus is the signs give our subdivision a first class welcome.

Working with Weathertop was a pleasure. The process from start to finish was done in a completely professional manner. The time in which they were completed was remarkable. The fact that you installed these signs in the winter on an absolutely miserable day showed your dedication to getting the project completed.

We are an unincorporated subdivision without any tax dollar funding, so it was nice to be able to get a top quality job done for a reasonable cost in an incredibly short period of time. I would highly recommend any one to use your talented artistry on their new signs. Please feel free to give them my phone number if they would like to talk to me.

Enclosed is a copy of a newspaper article proudly displaying one of our 5 new signs.

Thank you again!"

Boardwalk Builders & Developers

Dear WeatherTop:

"We are extremely pleased with the results of your design and production effort for the various subdivision signs you have crafted for us over the past few years. Your talent for this craft is evident in each sign you have made, and we are proud to display your work as the entrance marker to our home building communities.

Since we began using your signs, we have had several people inquire as to who the artist was and have referred them to you. As a builder, we believe there is no greater form of advertising than a referral from a satisfied customer, and for you, Boardwalk is that customer. Best wishes for continued success in your craft!"

First United Property Management

Dear Weathertop:

"On behalf of the Briarcliffe Lakes Manor Homes Condominium Association, I would like to thank you for the two beautiful new signs. The whole process from meeting with you to final installation was a great success. I would especially like to thank you for coming to the monthly board meetings to get the input of all the board members. The signs came out with everyone complimenting the board on how great they look. The board is now planning the new landscape to work with the signs.

It was a great pleasure to work with WeatherTop on this project and I'm looking forward to the next one of my properties that is looking to enhance their look with a new WeatherTop Woodcraft sign, We continue to get positive feedback not only from our residents, but the local neighborhood, as well as board members in other associations nearby."

Planning Resources Incorporated

Dear WeatherTop:

"I would like to thank you for your assistance with our recent projects and the design work that you provided Planning Resources Inc. as a sub-consultant. Your hard work, creativity and ability to meet our schedule led to a very successful implementation of neighborhood entry signs in Elk Grove Village. We have had much positive feedback from our client and it appears that it may lead to additional work. Additionally, the wonderful work you did on the final design of our office's sign and the construction is outstanding.

Once again I would like to express my appreciation for all your hard work. If I may be of assistance to you in any way, please do not hesitate to call. We look forward to working with you again in the future as new projects require signage."

To Whom It May Concern:

"I had the pleasant opportunity to work closely with Dick Malacek, the head man at WeatherTop, on many signage projects both with my previous firm, Davis & Associates, Ltd., and my current position with Planning Resources Inc. WeatherTop has developed custom entry signs for numerous park sites in the past and most recently, the creation of 14 neighborhood identity signs for the Landscape Enhancement Program for the Village of Elk Grove VIllage, Illinois. As the Landscape Architect and Village's Agent for the project, I communicated directly with Mr. Malacek regarding the final design, color graphic, and general contractor coordination.

Dick Malacek is a conscientious, highly skilled individual and possesses a clear understanding of his craft and materials. He relates well with people and has excellent time management skills with respect to project deadlines.

From an architect's perspective, working with a contractor with good moral values is uncommon and almost unheard of. However, Dick is a man of integrity, honest, assertive, enthusiastic, and exemplifies good ethical behavior which made my working experience an enjoyable one."

Carol Stream Park District

To Whom it May concern:

"I highly recommend Richard Malacek of Weathertop Woodcraft.

I have had the pleasure of working with Dick during the past couple of years.  He recently made fourteen new park signs for us.  In addition to the signs, he made thirteen logos to fit our older park signs.

Dick was very cooperative during the whole process.  He completed the project before our due date.  He is organized, reliable and friendly.  We had one size issue on one of the signs, and Dick remade the sign, no questions asked, to meet our measurements.  Our fitted logos were done so that they could be set in our older signs.  Dick suggested HDU, a new material to us, and helped us with the process of how this would work.  Any time we wanted to meet with him, he happily came to our building.

Richard Malacek of Weathertop Woodcraft has my highest recommendation. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call me."
